Shatadhauta Ghrita, an Ayurvedic formulation used for topical application has been accredited with wound healing properties. Panchavalkala (Combination of Five Plant Barks) is also said to be beneficial in promoting wound healing. If both these formulation are gathered together, significant wound healing activity is hypothesized. To validate this, Shatadhauta Ghrita was prepared in presence of Panchavalkala Kwatha and its wound healing activity was evaluated in experimental model. Samples of Shatadhauta Ghrita and Panchavalkala Siddha Shatadhauta Ghrita were prepared by following classical methods and coded as SDG and PSSG. Selected animals were randomly divided into five groups of six animals each. The drugs were applied externally on the excision wound once daily. Betadine was used as reference standard (RS). Both the test drugs showed mild wound healing activity in comparison to RS. The test formulations were found to have mild wound healing activity in excision wound model, the difference in between the test drugs was statistically insignificant.
